200 to 1,000 hp, quarter-mile times at a glance
How Fast Is Your Horsepower?
Pick a horsepower level to see how fast it really is. The chart below uses a 3,500 lb car, and each row links to a page with times for a range of weights.

The estimate uses the widely published Patrick Hale equations: ET = 5.825 × (weight ÷ hp)1/3 and MPH = 234 × (hp ÷ weight)1/3, with weight in pounds and hp measured at the crank. They are documented, along with the more conservative Huntington (6.290 / 224) and Fox constants, in Stealth316’s horsepower / ET / MPH calculator notes. See the full formulas and sources page.
How to use this chart
Find your horsepower, check the time for a 3,500 lb car, and use the page for your specific weight. If your weight differs a lot from 3,500 lb, the quarter mile calculator will give you a precise figure. Remember to use crank horsepower; if you have dyno numbers, convert them with the WHP to HP calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What horsepower do you need to run a 10 second quarter mile?
A 3,500 lb car needs about 692 hp at the crank. A 3,000 lb car needs about 593 hp.
How much horsepower is considered fast?
