The formula

speed = distance ÷ time. A quarter mile (1,320 ft) in 12 seconds is 110 ft/s, or 75 mph on average. Your trap speed is far higher (about 114 mph at 12 s) because you are accelerating the whole way, so the finish speed is roughly 1.5 times the average.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate mph from distance and time?

Convert the distance to miles and the time to hours, then divide. Or put the numbers in the calculator.

Why is my trap speed higher than my average speed?

Trap speed is your speed at the finish. The average speed over the run is lower because you started from a standstill.

How many feet per second is 60 mph?

Exactly 88 feet per second.
